The Traditional King: the plain choice for two

The Traditional King Size Bed is one of the four room types River Cree films on its Stay page. The name is all the text there is: one king-size bed, in what the hotel calls its traditional rooms as opposed to the luxury suites. Everything else we can say comes from the hotel-wide amenity lists.

What you can count on

The Stay page lists air conditioning, a desk, a hair dryer, cable TV with pay-per-view, in-room movies, high-speed internet, a telephone, a radio and an alarm clock, a bathtub and a shower. The hotel overview says every room has a microwave, a mini fridge and a Keurig coffee maker, along with complimentary Wi-Fi and what it calls ergonomic workspaces. Travel Alberta adds premium bedding and flat-screen TVs that can cast from Netflix. Room service runs 24 hours a day.

Who this room suits

A couple with tickets for The Venue, where every show is 18+ and most start at 8 or 9 pm. The walk from the showroom to the hotel is indoors. It also suits a single business traveller using the main-floor business centre and the meeting rooms, or anyone coming for a Hell's Kitchen dinner, which is served until 11 pm.

Who should pick something else

Families of three or more: two queen beds or the Luxury Family Suite make more sense. Light sleepers should read the Trip.com review summary, which notes that some guests found night-time noise disruptive, and ask the desk for a room away from the elevators.

What to ask before booking

• The floor, and whether the window faces the construction of the new tower.
• Whether the room has a bathtub with a shower over it or a separate shower — the list includes both words, not the layout.
• Late check-out on the morning after a show, if you plan on a 9 pm concert.
• Whether the Bed & Breakfast Package applies to your night.
